As the owner of High Altitude Heating & Air, I instill in my team the importance of honesty and transparency in everything we do. It’s paramount to our mission to serve our customers and our community. And to keep true to our values, I have to be honest and transparent with you about some upcoming changes that are going to affect costs as it relates to gas-fired furnaces.
Going into effect on January 1, 2026, as part of Colorado’s House Bill 23-1161, all newly manufactured furnaces sold in the state must comply with stricter emissions limits. You will hear or see these newly compliant units referred to as Ultra Low NOx furnaces.
While we support the use of more environmentally friendly equipment, Ultra Low NOx furnaces will cost more than current standard gas furnaces. The price difference is not yet known to us, but it will be a significant increase.
This will be the case for furnaces from every manufacturer as the entire industry is affected by this regulation.
I don’t want to be alarmist and scare you with the threat of increased pricing. I want to provide you all the information I have so you can make the best decision possible for you and your home.
First and most important, please have a tune-up performed on your furnace this fall. Preventive maintenance is the best way to extend the life of your system. Even if your system is running great, we want to help you get additional years out of it by keeping it well maintained.
Second, if your system is 10 years old or older, it is of the age where breakdowns can occur that require major repairs, or even replacement. In addition to having your system maintained this fall, I urge you to look into joining a maintenance program like our Base Camp Protection Plan. In addition to discounts on maintenance and repair costs, maintenance programs can save you money when it comes time to replace your equipment in the future.
Finally, if you are thinking you need to replace your system this year or next, please reach out to my team to start the conversation. They are incredibly thoughtful in describing all the options available to you. They will recommend the right equipment to fit your needs, as well as provide details on the available financing, rebates, and tax credits to assist in the cost of replacing your system.
If you have any questions about this new law going into effect, about these Ultra Low NOx furnaces, or about getting your system tune-up scheduled this fall, please don’t hesitate to contact my team or to ask them about it if you have them in your home.
Thank you,
